Overview
The Canada Malting Co. North & South Silos Exterior Rehabilitation formed a key component of the Bathurst Quay Neighbourhood Plan, an initiative to preserve and revitalize one of Toronto’s most significant industrial heritage landmarks. The project included comprehensive concrete rehabilitation, foundation waterproofing, roof replacement, selective demolition, and the careful preservation of heritage elements, while restoring the long-term structural integrity and weather resistance of the historic silos.
Our Approach
Working on a designated heritage structure required meticulous planning and close coordination with the project team to balance preservation with modernization. Our phased approach prioritized the protection and storage of heritage components, controlled demolition of non-heritage elements, extensive concrete and waterproofing repairs, and the installation of new roofing systems. Throughout the project, strict quality control, safety measures, and heritage conservation practices ensured the successful rehabilitation of this iconic waterfront landmark while preserving its historical character.
